The road is long

This week I’ve got some good training in at the gym, and despite it being my first week back I’ve felt like I’ve hit the ground running…the road is long and although mid week was tough it was worth my time and Thursday was just about the same. Slowly but surely improvements are beginning to creep in and for the first time in weeks now a niggling injury with my left leg is finally beginning to settle down.  I’ve spent a lot of time cunningly working around it in training as being honest since I got injured sparring (and it was just one of those things) it’s really not been right. I don’t know how many of you have had to work around an injury but it can become a pain in the rear end very rapidly. I do everything with my left leg!

That aside we spent the beginning of the week focusing on elbows and knee strikes which I always enjoy and Tuesday,Wednesday  and Thursday were all about drills and sparring. It’s funny because Monday when it came to sparring my energy levels were still in fight mode and come mid week I seemed to experience this kind of crash that got me in a ‘ do you have to hit me and kick me so much?’ mentality that didn’t really serve me well come my third and final round of the evening. Some days as I’ve said before training can just be tough but I’m pleased to say I made sure I got a good week’s work in.

Next week I’m back to training all week so hope the additional boost helps me to keep making improvements that I need to. I guess if you put in the work and believe in yourself enough you can’t help but get good. I’ve been thinking ( as usual) about what my next set of goals are going to be for 2015 with Muay Thai. It’s funny how quickly a year goes these days isn’t it?. In just over a week I am off to Thailand for the first time for three weeks so have no doubt in my mind that my eyes will open and I will have a fantastic time. Of course, most of my time is going to be spent training but I do have one personal goal that I want to achieve there. I really want to ride an elephant, and when I do I’ll share the snaps on here! They are beautiful animals and bring good luck. 🙂

Going back to my goals for 2015 with boxing I think I am going to take the year as it comes. There is short term goals for me and some longer term ones too. All of them amount to one requirement and that is focus and discipline and I know that I have both. Although sometimes it’s nice to let what little hair I have down, I get bored of the mundane very quickly. I don’t think that will ever change and it often reminds me of why I started training in the first place.

So next week I’m going to make sure I’m training hard and not just going through the motions. There’s a lesson to be learnt from every competition win lose or draw. I guess really for me the question I always ask is what did I take away and what can I do better? time usually tells. Have a good week and train hard. Just like the last time, and the time before that.. I’ll see you on that road.
